Last Friday, April 18, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, we gathered at BCIF La Paz, located at Lopez Jaena Street, La Paz, Iloilo City, for a special event titled “7 Last Words” with the theme “United at the Cross.” It was a meaningful and Spirit-filled gathering of different BCIF churches — La Paz, Bito-on, Lanit, and Mandurriao — all coming together as one family in Christ. We were blessed to have over 100 people join us for this special occasion, filling the church with excitement, reverence, and unity.
The event started with an opening prayer led by Ptr. Diona Masangkay, setting a reverent and expectant atmosphere. Seven powerful speakers then shared heartfelt messages based on the seven last words of Jesus before His death on the cross. Mrs. Ada Jayme spoke on Luke 23:34 – “Father, forgive them…” reminding us of the power of forgiveness. Ptr. Beth Jayme followed with a message from Luke 23:43 – “Today you will be with Me in paradise,” highlighting God's grace. Mrs. Sally Arlante shared about John 19:26-27, focusing on care for others, while Mrs. Wendy Montero delivered a moving message from Mark 15:33-34 – “My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Continuing the reflection, Mr. Francis Planto spoke from John 19:28 – “I thirst,” reminding us of Jesus’ humanity. Mr. Felix Gervacio preached on John 19:30 – “It is finished,” declaring the completed work of Christ. Finally, Ptr. Aljhay Cabarles spoke from Luke 23:46 – “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit,” teaching us about full surrender to God. Each message was filled with insight, passion, and encouragement, leading us closer to the heart of Jesus and the meaning of the cross.

After the preaching, we enjoyed a time of fellowship and sharing food, giving everyone a chance to connect and get to know members from the other churches. It was a joyful time of building friendships and unity among believers. Many were blessed by the warm conversations and the sense of family that filled the room. The smiles, laughter, and encouragement shared over the meal reminded us of the joy found in Christian community.

The event closed in prayer, led by Ptr. Larkins Mercado, thanking God for the powerful messages, the unity among churches, and the love we experienced through the cross. Truly, the “7 Last Words” reminded us that no matter where we come from, we are all united at the cross — bound by Christ's love and called to grow together in faith. We are already looking forward to more gatherings like this in the future, where hearts are touched, and lives are changed.
